Mumbai to Spiti by train: why we skip the flight
3rd AC from Bandra Terminus to Ambala Cantt, and why the train makes the trip cheaper and better.
The route
We board the 3rd AC train at Bandra Terminus at 11:00 AM on 25 December and reach Ambala Cantt at 8:47 AM the next morning, about 22 hours later. Our Tempo Traveller picks the group up at the station and heads for Narkanda.
Why train and not flight
The train keeps the whole trip at ₹26,000 Mumbai to Mumbai, and the journey becomes part of the holiday: by the time you reach Ambala, the group already knows each other.
Food on the train
Meals on the train are not included. Order through the IRCTC e-Catering app or carry your own food and snacks.
Book early
Train tickets are booked as soon as seats confirm, and they are non-refundable once booked. Christmas trains fill fast, so book your seat early.
Coming back
We leave Ambala Cantt at 6:35 PM on 2 January and reach Bandra Terminus at 4:10 PM on 3 January.
